i like california quail
i first learned to like them
when i arrived on salt spring
and my hostess lillian
would feed them on her deck
and we would watch them
from inside her cottage
as they are somewhat skittish
lillian would 'talk' to them
i can see and hear her now
in my minds eye and ear
with her hilarious impersonation
of these quirky birds
